MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 is a powerful video editor which comes packed with essential functionality.

The program can import full HD footage directly from most HDV and AVCHD camcorders, for instance.

You can then organise your movie across 32 tracks, before enhancing it with custom titles, transitions and a range of special effects.

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 also provides a wide range of audio editing features, which you can expand further thanks to its support for VST and DirectX plug-ins.

And once you're happy, your finished masterpiece can be exported as anything from an HD AVI video file to an animated GIF, burned to DVD or Blu-ray with your own custom menu design, or uploaded directly to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and more.

The 2014 release includes many new features. Support for the 4K Ultra HD standard gives you amazing image quality; a new toolbar and touch-optimised interface makes the program even easier to use, while multi-core optimisations ramp up your editing performance.

And elsewhere, a revamped and simplified interface offers high DPI support; a subwoofer filter strips out wind noise from your soundtrack; there's support for opening and editing MET (MAGIX Movie Edit Touch) projects, so you can start a project on a tablet, and complete it on your PC; and a host of extra content includes new video intros/ outros, DVD/ Blu-ray menu templates, Slideshow Maker styles and more.

Still not enough? There are two more powerful versions available.

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus extends the program with a 99-track timeline, full stereo 3D support, multicam editing, audio dubbing in 5.1 surround sound, many additional effects (including HDR), professional movie templates, and custom menu design.

And MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium, listed here, adds further content, including programs worth £350: proDAD Heroglyph V4 Pro, and NewBlue ColorFast.

Please note, the MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus setup program will by default install the Ask toolbar. If this doesn't appeal, watch closely during the setup process and deselect any options you don't need.

Verdict

A powerful editor, packed with features and good value for money. There's still something of a learning curve, but take the time to learn how everything works and you'll soon be producing high quality, professional movies.
